Shibaricon VI: Memorial Day weekend in Chicago!

I have recently returned from my 6th annual visit to the Chicago area in order to attend and present classes at Shibaricon! With out a doubt this has become my favorite event of the year!

For those of you that have no clue what that is: Shibari is Japanese rope bondage and con is short for convention! Read On!

The world's premiere international pansexual annual exhibition and conference that focuses on education and information exchange of rope bondage. Registration is Open! Memorial Day weekend in Chicago, IL.

Shibaricon (www.Shibaricon.com) is a gathering of rope lovers, rope Masters, bondage aficionados, knot fetishists and those just curious enough to make the step outside of the bedroom into the sensual art of Japanese rope bondage. Bondage players from around the world, this is an opportunity to attend a gathering that will provide education, self-expression, foster new friendships, and renew old acquaintances in the wonderful city of Chicago Memorial day weekend!

Birthed by Mortis and a team of bondage enthusiasts under his BDSM-Chicago Organization (www.BDSM-Chicago.com), as a way of bringing lovers of Bondage together to share ideas and techniques, and create a tighter community amongst those practitioners and aficionados of the art. His reasons for organizing this event are very personal as well as community oriented.

“I came into the BDSM community to learn rope bondage, but I had a hard time finding someone to teach me, especially the style I wanted to learn (Japanese Rope Bondage), So for 2 years traveled to learn from groups in other cities.

Eventually I met Midori at a workshop, and started finding websites to learn from. I also started finding some more local people to learn from and my deeper knowledge progressed from there.

"This is the reason I created Shibaricon, I felt that rope bondage people have their own needs and it is necessary to have an event that helps to address those needs. I wanted to create an educational environment for rope bondage people to go to that is totally supportive, and give rope artists a community to grow, support, communicate and learn together.”

The result of his desire will produce an event with workshops, Demos, play space, and vendors from around the country.

"This is the newest and best idea for an event that I have seen in a long time" according to BP, a member of the BDSM community and Rope Bondage lover. "This is going to be a huge event for people who love rope bondage."

Some of the unique offerings of this premier Bondage event include: Iron Dom: (a.k.a. Iron Chef) Fun competitions at novice, intermediate, advanced and suspensions levels to see who can do the most interesting bondage in a period of time, with judges commentary, awards and titles to be giving out.

Bondage Shows: Bondage shows done by performers for entertainment purposes.

Workshops: Workshops on rope toy making and other related fun stuff!

NCSF Charity Auction: A special "Bondage Celebrities" charity auction! 100% of all proceeds will go directly to the NCSF.

Course Offerings

Taught by some of the best and most talented rope bondage artist from around the world!

Safety: (Levels 101)
Classes to teach bondage safety
All beginner level technique classes will also cover this issue.

Technique: (Levels 101, 201, 301) Classes in Novice, Intermediate, and Experienced suspension levels to teach technique and usage.

Examples: classes as general as teaching basic rope to high level suspensions classes. As well as specific as classes to teach bedroom/sexual position bondage or D/s positions. etc.

Variations of Rope Bondage (chain? plastic wrap etc)

Play Techniques for bondage (sensation play, sensory depravation etc.)

Construction: for suspension, equipment : Rigging, secure suspension points

Health: (Levels Any) Classes to help teach heath and fitness for bondage. Yoga and mediations classes to teach rope bottom how to stretch for bondage.

Anatomy for Rope Bondage

Mental: (Levels Any) Mental aspects of bondage, how what you do affects your scene etc.

Panels: (Levels Any) Panelist to talk about issues and open discussions on bondage and related topics

I feel so fortunate to have been in attendance at the first annual Shibaricon which took place in Chicago from May 27 - 31 2004. I have attended many events over the years and I can honestly say that in my opinion every thing avout this event was top notch and it was one of the best events I have ever attended! I simply cannot wait till next year!

The hotel was beautiful, accomodations were great and the hotel staff was friendly, helpful & welcoming. The classes and presenters were suberb covering a wide array of bondage levels, styles and related topics thoroughly. The play space was well equipped and had a super atmosphere. There were great additional events like a fashion show, comedy act, bondage shows and even a fun & playful "Iron Dom" competition. They even had a silent auction that raised over $1300.00 for the NCSF!

But I think the best part of all was the people. Over 250 attendants & presenters came from 4 continents to share their love of rope with each other leaving everyone that attended a sense of community like no other! This event is a MUST for anyone that loves bondage. I know I will want to attend every year from now on!
